On Friday, Harris’ office confirmed that she would stay in Washington to conduct closed meetings with her staff. Meanwhile, President Biden also returned to the White House, cancelling his holiday trip to Delaware, which further fueled concerns.

The House of Representatives failed to pass a stopgap funding bill on Thursday after a significant number of Republicans opposed it, despite a bipartisan agreement initially being reached to keep the government running.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre issued a statement, urging Republicans to stop playing politics with the funding bill, warning that failure to act would hurt working Americans and create instability across the country.
