Two Oakland Police Officers Arrested for DUI, Alameda County DA Reports
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office expressed public safety concerns on Monday following the arrest of a second Oakland police officer for allegedly driving while intoxicated.
Both officers were arrested by the California Highway Patrol in separate incidents. District Attorney Pamela Price confirmed that charges are pending against them.
Price stated that both officers were on duty at the time of their arrests and has since sent a letter to Oakland Police Chief Floyd Mitchell highlighting her concerns about the alleged misconduct.
“Having officers intoxicated while on duty or off duty represents a clear and present danger to the officer and the public,” Price remarked during a news conference. “My hope is that you, as the new leader of the Oakland Police Department, will establish clear policies to prevent this potentially dangerous and deadly conduct from endangering the residents of Alameda County and Oakland.”
Price did not disclose the names of the officers or the specific details of the arrests.
In response, Oakland police stated that neither the chief nor the assistant chief received Price’s letter. “OPD is aware of the allegations made against our members and is cooperating with outside law enforcement agencies on each case,” the department said in a statement. “The employees in question were placed on administrative leave in June 2023 and October 2023, and both matters are under investigation.” The department did not provide any additional information.
