Two individuals are facing charges for their alleged involvement in a large-scale gift card scam that spanned multiple Florida counties and involved victims across the nation.
The couple, Caoyan Liu and Lingham Chen, were arrested after a grocery store employee in Martin County reported suspicious activity involving the tampering of a gift card display. When deputies arrived at the scene, they questioned the suspects and discovered that the pair were linked to a widespread theft operation targeting stores across Florida and beyond.

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), Liu and Chen, who have been in Florida since April, are connected to multiple theft cases in Manatee, Sarasota, and Lee counties. Investigators believe they may have also targeted locations in cities including Orlando, Fort Myers, Naples, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami. The ongoing investigation suggests the scam may have resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses.
