Police in Arizona were unable to arrest a traveler bound for Utah who was found with pounds of methamphetamine in his checked luggage after his flight had already departed.
During routine baggage screening at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, TSA agents discovered a suspicious item and alerted Airport Bureau Officers. Upon testing, the substance was confirmed to be two pounds of meth, according to a report by FOX 10 Phoenix.
Authorities revealed that the flight to Salt Lake City had already left the gate, and the suspected owner of the bag was on board.
“The flight had already pushed from the gate, so the adult male traveler was not contacted at the time of the original investigation,” a police representative explained. Follow-up efforts are ongoing, and charges will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
This incident follows another recent arrest at the same airport, where a woman was caught with six bricks of fentanyl hidden in her luggage, thanks to collaboration between Phoenix police and Sky Harbor TSA agents.
