The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has reissued a recall for ready-to-eat meat and poultry products from Yu Shang Food, Inc. following a serious listeria outbreak. The recall, initially issued on November 9, 2024, is now classified as a Class I recall, the most serious type due to the significant health risk. Tragically, an infant has died after consuming some of the contaminated meat, and at least 10 people have become sick.
The recalled products, totaling approximately 4,589 pounds, were produced between October 21 and October 27, 2024. They have “use by” dates from August 21, 2025, through August 27, 2025. The affected items bear establishment numbers “P-46684” or “EST. M46684” inside the USDA mark of inspection and were shipped nationwide, both to retail locations and available for online purchase.
The contamination was detected after routine testing by FSIS confirmed that meat produced on October 21, 2024, tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. The affected states include California, New Jersey, New York, and Illinois, where listeria cases have been reported. Two infant twins in California died after eating the tainted meat, although only one death has been officially linked to the outbreak because the second twin was not tested for listeria.
Due to the long shelf life of these products, officials fear more cases will emerge. “The true number of sick individuals is likely higher than reported, as some recover without medical care and may not be tested for Listeria,” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated.
Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to discard them or return them to the place of purchase. Anyone with questions about the recall can contact Yu Shang Food, Inc. at yushangchicken@gmail.com or call Plant Manager Ling Li at 408-857-0901. For food safety inquiries, the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline is available at 888-674-6854, or questions can be emailed to MPHotline@usda.gov. To report a meat, poultry, or egg product issue, consumers can use the USDA’s online complaint system at FSIS Complaint System.
