The San Jose Police Department (SJPD) is investigating a tragic collision that resulted in the death of a female pedestrian on Tuesday evening. The incident took place at 6:31 p.m. at the intersection of South Fifth and East Fernando streets, where a male driver in a 2018 silver Nissan Sentra struck the woman as she was crossing in the designated crosswalk.
The driver remained at the scene and has been cooperating with the investigation. The victim, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries but succumbed to her injuries a few days later.
This incident marks the 15th pedestrian fatality and the 41st traffic-related death in San Jose for the year 2024, according to SJPD statistics.
