A tragic accident occurred Monday morning in a Fremont parking lot, resulting in the death of a toddler. The incident took place around 11:45 a.m. at the Ardenwood Forest Rental Condominiums, located near Dunsmuir Common and Colleen Terrace.
According to the Fremont Police Department, multiple 911 calls reported a pedestrian crash involving a child. Officers arrived on the scene and found the injured child, but despite their attempts at medical care, the child succumbed to their injuries.
Initial investigations by the Fremont Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit revealed that an adult driver was pulling out of a parking stall when the child unexpectedly ran in front of the vehicle. The child was struck by the front left side of the car. The driver immediately stopped and remained at the scene, fully cooperating with authorities. Police reported that there was no indication of drug or alcohol impairment.
This incident marks Fremont’s 11th fatal pedestrian collision of 2024. Just two weeks prior, a driver died in a separate solo crash when their Tesla crashed into a building at high speed.
“As we mourn this tragic incident with our community, please respect the family’s privacy during this incredibly difficult time,” the police department stated. They also reminded drivers to remain vigilant while on the road, in driveways, and in parking lots, emphasizing the importance of scanning for pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and any moving objects nearby.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information is encouraged to contact the Fremont Police Traffic Unit at 510-790-6760.
