A 46-year-old man has been ordered to stand trial on murder charges following a fatal shooting in East Palo Alto in 2022, according to San Mateo County prosecutors.
Details of the Case
John Caisiano Thompson is accused of murdering Breanna Labat, a 32-year-old woman who was renting a room in his home on Daphne Way. The alleged incident occurred on December 2, 2022. Despite the gravity of the situation, Labat’s body has yet to be located.
Allegations Against Thompson
Prosecutors assert that Thompson, who was already out on bail related to a pending illegal possession of a firearm case, shot Labat during an argument. Stray gunfire from the incident also reportedly injured another person present in the home. Following the shooting, Thompson allegedly sought assistance from another individual to dispose of Labat’s body.
Court Proceedings
Thompson’s preliminary hearing concluded on Monday, with San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Jonathan Karesh ordering him to stand trial on the murder charge along with other related charges. The case is scheduled to return to court on October 22 for a formal arraignment on the charges.
Defense Representation
Thompson’s defense attorney, Emily Andrews, was not immediately available for comment regarding the case.
