Police in Hartford, Connecticut, are searching for 23-year-old Lance “Macho” Morales, who is accused of fatally shooting a 20-year-old mother and her 4-month-old son in a drive-by attack on Tuesday. A warrant has been issued for Morales, who faces two counts of murder, criminal possession of a firearm, and other charges. His bond is set at $3 million.
According to Hartford police, officers responded to Hartford Hospital on Tuesday afternoon after a vehicle arrived carrying multiple gunshot victims. Jessiah Mercado, the mother, and her son, Messiah Diaz, were both pronounced dead at the hospital. Another person in their 20s sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, while the driver of the car was uninjured.
Investigators believe the shooting took place shortly before the victims arrived at the hospital when a suspect vehicle pulled up alongside the victims’ car and opened fire. The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to contact the Hartford Police Department.
Morales is currently at large, and authorities are working with other law enforcement agencies to apprehend him.
