Payment Dates for December
For those waiting for their SSDI payments, the Social Security Administration (SSA) typically issues payments on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month. However, this month, there’s a significant change:
- December 11, 2024: SSDI payment for those born between the 1st and 10th of the month
- December 18, 2024: SSDI payment for those born between the 11th and 20th of the month
- December 24, 2024: SSDI payment for those born between the 21st and 31st of the month
Exception for December 25, 2024
Since December 25 is a federal holiday, the SSA will issue the payment for the third Wednesday of the month early, on Tuesday, December 24. This ensures there is no delay due to the holiday.
SSDI Payment Amounts
The amount of SSDI payments varies for each individual, depending on factors like work history, earnings, and age at the time of applying. While some recipients may receive the maximum payment of $3,822 in 2024, the average SSDI payment is closer to $1,542.
2025 COLA Increase
Starting in January 2025, recipients will see a 2.5% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) increase. The new maximum SSDI benefit will rise to $4,018. However, this COLA increase will not be reflected in December payments. The average SSDI payment will rise to $1,542, but this can vary depending on each recipient’s individual circumstances.
