San Mateo Police Arrest Cyclist for Drug Possession and Providing False Identification

San Mateo police officers made a felony drug arrest last night after stopping a cyclist for riding without proper lighting. The cyclist, later identified as 51-year-old Jason Hellman from Vallejo, nearly collided with a patrol vehicle around 8:40 p.m., prompting the officers to intervene.

During the stop, Hellman provided a false identification, which belonged to another person with an outstanding warrant. After being stopped, he attempted to evade law enforcement but was quickly apprehended without further incident.

A search of Hellman’s belongings revealed a substantial amount of drugs, including over four ounces of methamphetamine, along with cash and drug paraphernalia. Initially using a false name, Hellman eventually disclosed his true identity, which revealed he had two felony warrants for his arrest.
