San Mateo County’s Rising Star: Rookie Deputy Arrests Suspect While Patrolling

A rookie deputy with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office made a significant arrest on Friday night, apprehending a suspect wanted for multiple warrants and discovering a firearm in his possession.

Around 11 p.m., while patrolling the coastal area near Half Moon Bay, the deputy initiated a traffic stop due to a vehicle code violation. Upon checking the driver’s information, the deputy found that the individual had an outstanding warrant for criminal threats, a hate crime, and a disorderly conduct allegation.

Additional deputies were called to the scene, and further investigation revealed a fully loaded, unregistered semi-automatic firearm inside the vehicle. The suspect, identified as 52-year-old Jason Quiros from El Granada, was arrested on suspicion of possessing an unregistered firearm, in addition to the existing warrants.
