San Jose Police Discover Stolen Laptops at Local Tech Repair Shop; Owner Taken Into Custody
Officers from the San Jose Police Department have recovered multiple stolen laptops and other items from a local tech repair shop, leading to the arrests of the store owner and one other individual.
On October 12, police responded to a report about stolen laptops from a research lab that were tracked to the iTek Mobile Repair shop located on South Bascom Avenue. Upon investigation, officers not only located the stolen devices in the store but also discovered that some of these items were listed for sale on the shop’s website.
Authorities allege that the shop’s owner, 31-year-old Thu Van Ho, and 32-year-old Thanh Nguyen, both residents of San Jose, were aware that the items were stolen and intended to resell them after erasing the original data. Investigators further revealed that stolen electronics were being prepared for shipment to Hong Kong from the shop.
During the search, officers seized 29 boxes filled with computers, phones, and tablets believed to be stolen property, with around 500 laptops found on-site.
Ho was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property, conspiracy, probation violation, and committing a felony while out on bail. Nguyen faces charges of receiving stolen property, conspiracy, and has an outstanding warrant. Ho is currently out on bail, while Nguyen remains in custody, according to police reports.
