Police Alert Community After Woman’s Necklace Stolen in Blessing Scam

Redwood City police are investigating a theft incident in which a woman’s gold necklace was stolen during a “blessing” scam on the 200 block of Madrone Street Thursday morning.

According to the police report, the victim was watering plants in front of her home around 9 a.m. when a vehicle approached and asked her for directions. A female suspect then allegedly pulled the woman closer, placed a medallion around her neck, and claimed she wanted to “bless” her. During this interaction, the suspect removed the medallion along with two of the victim’s chains.

While the victim managed to retain one of her chains, the suspect drove away with the other, as reported by police.

The female suspect is described as a Middle Eastern woman, approximately 50 to 60 years old, and was wearing a head covering. The driver is described as a Middle Eastern man, around 45 to 50 years old and weighing about 250 pounds. The vehicle involved is believed to be a dark SUV.
