Orlando Car Dealer Admits to Rolling Back Odometers, Defrauding Buyers Nationwide

An Orlando auto dealer has pleaded guilty to three counts of odometer tampering, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida. The dealer, Drew Mitchell Schreiber, admitted to rolling back the mileage on vehicles before reselling them, defrauding unsuspecting buyers across the United States.

Schreiber, the owner of Central Florida Automotive Group—now operating as Southeastern Credit Union Solutions in Winter Garden, Florida—purchased high-mileage vehicles at wholesale auto auctions across Florida. He then altered the odometers, rolling back the mileage by as much as 428,000 miles, and sold the vehicles to other used-car dealers through auctions or direct online sales. These fraudulent practices generated significant financial gains for Schreiber at the expense of buyers.

Many of the vehicles involved were over 10 years old and were sold with “exempt” titles, which do not require mileage disclosure. However, Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian M. Boynton emphasized that this exemption does not grant the right to manipulate odometers. “Used car buyers deserve peace of mind knowing that the odometer reading in their vehicle is correct,” Boynton stated.

The case was investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Office of Odometer Fraud Investigation. Trial Attorney David Sullivan from the Justice Department’s Consumer Protection Branch and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kara Wick from the Middle District of Florida prosecuted the case.

Schreiber entered a plea agreement, but his sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled. A federal district court judge will determine the sentence, considering U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
