LA County Robbery Suspect Gets 110-Month Sentence After High-Speed Freeway Escape

Anthony Flores, 28, also known as “BabyGfar,” was sentenced to 110 months in federal prison for a series of robberies across Los Angeles County. The string of crimes ended with a high-speed chase and a daring escape attempt on the freeway.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, Flores and his co-conspirators targeted BevMo! liquor stores in Long Beach and Lakewood between May 27 and May 31, 2023. They also attempted robberies in West Covina and Pasadena, and on June 5, they tried to rob a BevMo! store in Canyon Country, where they threatened employees with violence.

In total, the group stole approximately $14,143 worth of merchandise. On June 5, Flores and another accomplice, 32-year-old Ivin Kitu Sanford, were involved in a robbery attempt at the Canyon Country location. They subdued a store employee and attempted to steal high-end liquor.

After fleeing the scene in a stolen Dodge Charger with a fake license plate, the two men led police on a chase. The pursuit ended when they crashed into a tree. Flores and Sanford then fled on foot, crossing six lanes of freeway traffic during rush hour. They were later found hiding in bushes and arrested.

U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada stated, “This defendant’s careless disregard for the law put lives at risk. Today’s sentence highlights that my office – through the Operation Safe Cities initiative – will make sure that violent criminals face real consequences.”

Flores and Sanford were arrested following the crash and escape attempt. Sanford also faces charges for his role in the robberies and high-speed chase.
