An 84-year-old man, Fernando Benitez Espinosa, was tragically hit and killed near Union Cemetery on October 16. The incident occurred at around 7:29 p.m. on South King Street. Officers responded to the 400 block, where they found Espinosa suffering from major injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pick-up truck remained on-site and cooperated with police.
A GoFundMe was created to honor Espinosa, describing him as “strong and mighty.” The tribute said, “He lived a beautiful long life, overcoming challenges along the way, but nothing ever stopped him. He was very independent, stubborn, but hard not to love and always held a special place in your heart.”
