The Los Altos Police Department is actively searching for four suspects involved in a home burglary that occurred over the weekend. According to a news release, the incident took place between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on September 28 at a residence on the 700 block of Covington Road.
Three male suspects broke into the home by smashing a rear glass door in the backyard. Fortunately, the occupants were inside at the time and managed to scare the intruders away. No items were reported stolen, but the suspects fled the scene in a newer model gray Dodge Durango with tinted windows, which was unregistered and did not have a license plate.
Prior to the break-in, a fourth suspect—a female—was caught on surveillance video at the front door of the residence holding a box of candy. Police believe this was a tactic to check if anyone was home, as no one answered the door before the three male suspects forced entry.
Descriptions of the suspects have been released by authorities:
- Suspect 1: A Hispanic or African American female with a medium to heavy build, curly/frizzy hair in a ponytail. She was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, blue pants, and a light-colored medical mask.
- Suspect 2: A male with an unknown race and a slim build, wearing a gray sweatshirt, black pants, black gloves, a medical mask, and white sneakers.
- Suspect 3: A male with an unknown race and a slim build, dressed in a dark-colored sweatshirt, possibly gray sweatpants, a white medical mask, and black gloves.
- Suspect 4: A male with an unknown race and a slim build, wearing a light-colored sweatshirt, black pants, red boxer-style underwear, a medical mask, and black gloves.
Fortunately, the home’s occupants were unharmed during the incident. Authorities believe these suspects may also be connected to a similar burglary in Hillsborough that occurred about an hour before the Los Altos incident.
