FBI Threats Lead to 15-Month Sentence for California Man, Cites Unabomber

Mark William Anten, 53, of Sun Valley, was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for sending threatening emails to the FBI, including threats to bomb its Los Angeles Field Office and references to notorious domestic terrorist, Theodore John Kaczynski, known as “The Unabomber.”

From July to December 2023, Anten sent a series of escalating menacing emails, with his final threat on December 5, 2023, stating, “I AM THE UNABOMBER” and threatening to bomb the FBI’s Westwood office. His communications referenced Kaczynski’s infamous 20-year bombing campaign that resulted in three deaths and dozens of injuries.

On November 20, 2023, FBI agents interviewed Anten at his home. During the interview, he admitted to sending the emails and was advised to cease contact with the FBI. However, he ignored the warning and continued with his threatening behavior.

U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada condemned the threats, emphasizing the importance of protecting law enforcement personnel who risk their lives daily to keep communities safe. Anten’s actions, escalating from warnings to direct threats, led to his sentence, which includes a federal prison term for making terroristic threats.
