A Thanksgiving Day robbery attempt at Family First Church in Antioch created some confusion due to a lack of clarity in initial reports. Many Virginians were left wondering if the incident had occurred in their state, as Antioch is also the name of an unincorporated town in Virginia’s Prince William County.
The event, however, took place in Antioch, California. Pastor Nick Neves of Family First Church thwarted the burglary by using martial arts to defend himself and the church against an axe-wielding intruder.
The confusion arose because the reports did not specify the state where the incident occurred. Adding to the mix-up, there is a Family First Ministries located in Leesburg, Virginia, which led some readers to mistakenly believe the incident happened in the Commonwealth.
Clearer reporting, specifying that the attempted burglary occurred in California, could have prevented the misunderstanding.
