The California Highway Patrol (CHP) recently recognized three men for their courageous efforts to save a man involved in a car crash earlier this year.
In January, the CHP received a call reporting a car accident. Upon arriving at the scene, the three men noticed a driver slumped unconscious in his vehicle. Without hesitation, they sprang into action. Two of the men performed CPR while the third directed traffic to ensure safety at the scene.
Firefighters arrived eight minutes later and took over the life-saving efforts. Unfortunately, the driver later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Despite the tragic outcome, the CHP made it a priority to honor the men for their selfless actions.
“Someone was in need of help, and we went into autopilot, doing what we were supposed to do,” said Stephen Cloud II, one of the men who administered CPR. “It’s unfortunate he didn’t make it, but we did what we could to give him the best chance possible.”
The CHP commended the trio for going above and beyond in a situation where many might have simply driven past. Their bravery and quick response exemplified a commitment to helping others in need.
