Rachel Jasso, 43, of Albuquerque, pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of dealing firearms without a license and possessing a machine gun conversion device, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico.
The charges stem from an undercover operation in 2023, where Rachel and her son, Joe Jasso, sold illegal firearm conversion devices to an ATF agent. The investigation began in December 2022, after the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) identified an Instagram account operated by Joe Jasso that advertised the illegal devices.
Although the original account was deleted in January 2023, ATF agents tracked a new account linked to Joe through distinct identifiers, including a skeleton hand tattoo. In February 2023, undercover agents conducted two controlled purchases from the Jassos.
During the first transaction, Joe demonstrated how to install a Glock switch, a device that turns a semi-automatic pistol into a fully automatic weapon. Rachel was present during both transactions and assisted in the exchange.
A search warrant executed at the Jassos’ residence in February 2023 led to the seizure of 10 firearms, five machine gun conversion devices, and a 3D printer used to manufacture the illegal devices. Neither Joe nor Rachel Jasso held the necessary federal firearms license to sell or possess such items.
Joe Jasso pleaded guilty on June 11, 2024, to charges of dealing firearms without a license and possessing a machine gun conversion device. Rachel Jasso is currently in custody awaiting sentencing, which has yet to be scheduled, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
