The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York announced today that Jyshun Trower, 27, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for trafficking illegal firearms and selling counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl.
Details of the Case
Between June 5, 2023, and December 14, 2023, Trower engaged in the illegal transport and sale of firearms across Manhattan and other parts of New York City.
Over the course of nearly a dozen transactions, Trower sold approximately 43 firearms, including military-style assault weapons, to an undercover law enforcement agent and others, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
In addition to the firearms trafficking, Trower conspired to sell 10,000 counterfeit pills containing fentanyl. He arranged to include several firearms in the same transaction.
Apprehension and Evidence
On December 14, 2023, Trower arrived at a predetermined location to complete a sale. Authorities apprehended him at the scene, recovering a bag filled with hundreds of counterfeit fentanyl-laced pills along with the firearms.
Statement from Authorities
U.S. Attorney Damian Williams emphasized the danger posed by Trower’s actions, stating:
“Jyshun Trower placed countless New Yorkers’ lives in danger, attempting to flood the City with over 40 illegal firearms, including military-style assault weapons, that destroy human bodies and lives. Trower also sold thousands of counterfeit pharmaceutical pills containing deadly fentanyl. He now faces significant time in prison for his crimes.”
Impact
This case underscores the ongoing threat of illegal firearms and fentanyl distribution in major metropolitan areas. Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of disrupting these operations to protect communities.
