According to The Sun, A frustrated Walmart customer recently shared her experience of abandoning a full cart of groceries because the store does not accept Apple Pay. The shopper expressed her dissatisfaction in a Facebook post, highlighting the inconvenience of being unable to complete her purchase with her preferred payment method.
Full Cart, No Payment
The woman revealed that she arrived at her local Walmart with a “full shopping cart,” ready to pay. However, her reliance on tap-to-pay options left her unable to check out. “Walmart, why tf y’all don’t accept tap?” she questioned in her post. “I had a full shopping cart but had to leave it because y’all don’t accept Apple Pay. Y’all a multi-billion dollar company, do better and upgrade.”
Customer Frustration
The issue of Walmart not accepting Apple Pay has sparked frustration among customers. One person lamented on Facebook, “Went way to Walmart just to forget they don’t take Apple Pay and left the whole cart in line.” Another user echoed similar sentiments, stating, “I left my whole cart at Walmart because they didn’t accept cash or Apple Pay. They gotta do better.”

Competition with Walmart Pay
Despite the complaints, Walmart continues to promote its own payment system, Walmart Pay. This digital wallet, accessible through the retailer’s mobile app, allows customers to store debit, credit, and gift cards for in-store purchases. However, it cannot be used for online shopping or at other retailers, creating limitations that frustrate shoppers who rely on mobile payments.
Walmart’s Strategy
Walmart CEO Doug McMillon has commented on the company’s stance regarding Apple Pay, noting that the retailer prefers customers to use its app while shopping in-store. This approach is part of Walmart’s strategy to drive engagement with its own digital services.
