Up to $5,000 Available for APS Data Breach Victims—Deadline December 24!

Americans have one final opportunity to claim a share of the $1.375 million settlement reached by Automation Personnel Services (APS) in a class action lawsuit over a 2020 data breach.

APS, a staffing agency, has agreed to pay nearly $1.4 million to resolve claims that it mishandled sensitive employee and job applicant data. The breach, which occurred in November 2020 and was revealed in March 2021, led to personal information being exposed to cybercriminals. This included Social Security numbers, bank account details, and other sensitive data.

Although APS has not admitted to any wrongdoing, they have agreed to settle the lawsuit to avoid further litigation. Eligible individuals whose personal data was compromised can file a claim to receive compensation for damages resulting from the breach.

Claimants can be reimbursed up to $5,000 for costs like bank fees, credit monitoring services, and fraudulent charges related to the breach. To substantiate these claims, applicants must provide documentation such as receipts, bank statements, or bills.

Additionally, those affected will receive one year of free credit monitoring through Identity Theft Guard Solutions.

The deadline to file a claim is December 24, 2024. Claims will be reviewed under penalty of perjury, so only qualified individuals should apply.

The settlement’s final approval hearing is scheduled for February 6, 2025.

This class action lawsuit, initiated by Tereas Madkin, was filed after APS allegedly failed to safeguard sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers, bank account details, and other personal identifiers. These data were reportedly accessed through APS’s unencrypted system and offered for sale on a hacker forum in November 2020.

APS, a staffing agency with over 40 locations and 37,000 employees, gathers and stores sensitive information during its hiring process. The class action argues that the company’s negligence allowed cybercriminals to exploit this data.

This is the last opportunity to claim compensation under the settlement. Ensure all claims are valid and submitted by the December deadline.
