According to Marca, The Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) program is a vital resource for families with children under 18 (or under 19 if they are full-time high school students), providing essential financial support to help them maintain stability and work toward self-sufficiency.
This program also extends to individuals who meet specific technical, income, and asset criteria. Even pregnant women may qualify for TCA during their third trimester if they are unable to work or during their ninth month of pregnancy.
Who is Eligible for TCA?
Eligibility for TCA comes with a few key rules, including a lifetime cap: adults can receive cash assistance for up to 48 months total. However, “child-only” cases—where only the child receives benefits—are exempt from this time limit, acknowledging the unique needs of children in such circumstances.
In addition, some beneficiaries are required to participate in work-related activities unless exempt. Regional Workforce Boards provide necessary resources to help them find or retain employment.
Income and Asset Limits
A family’s gross income must fall below 185 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. The countable income must not exceed the designated payment standard for their family size. Additionally, applicants need to meet certain citizenship and residency qualifications. They must be U.S. citizens or qualified non-citizens and reside in Florida.
A Social Security Number is also required, or applicants must provide proof that they have applied for one. Moreover, children must live with their parent or a close relative, ensuring that assistance goes to those who genuinely need support within their family environment.
