Company President Gordon Reaves stated that this decision aims to create a healthier foundation for the brand’s future growth. With increasing competition from retailers like Walmart and Amazon, Stop & Shop is focusing on enhancing its in-store and online customer experience.

Reaves emphasized the importance of adapting to changing consumer habits by investing in remodeling stores and offering lower everyday prices. Following these closures, Stop & Shop will operate 359 stores across Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island, while providing affected employees opportunities to transfer to nearby locations
