Starbucks Closure: Downtown Location Shutters After 30 Years—Last Days to Visit!
According to The Sun, A landmark Starbucks location in San Francisco’s SoMa neighborhood is preparing to serve its last cup of coffee on November 8, 2024. This store, located at 120 4th St., has been a staple of the community since it opened in 1994, marking nearly 30 years of operation.
Mixed Reactions to the Closure
The impending closure has elicited a range of reactions from the public, many of which reflect indifference, given the abundance of Starbucks locations in the area. One commenter on a NEWSBREAK thread pointed out the proximity of another Starbucks, stating, “Ummm, this Starbucks is literally ACROSS THE STREET from ANOTHER Starbucks. What an absurd article.”
Other responses were more critical, with some users politicizing the closure. One passionate commenter remarked, “Yet you keep voting in democrats!” while another added, “Don’t worry about it, they’ll keep voting for the destructive democrats! Mind boggling.” In contrast, a simpler sentiment was expressed by a user who stated, “No big loss.”
Starbucks’ Official Statement
In response to the closure, a Starbucks spokesperson explained, “As part of Starbucks’ standard course of business, we continually evaluate our business to ensure a healthy store portfolio. After careful consideration, we’ve determined it is best to close the store at 120 4th Street.”

Recent Closures in the Area
This closure is not an isolated incident for Starbucks in San Francisco. Earlier this fall, another outpost inside the Emporium Centre also closed permanently, and last year, the company shut down seven locations throughout the city, including stores in SoMa, Union Square, the Financial District, and Cathedral Hill.
Adding to the changes, Starbucks has announced plans to eliminate its olive oil-based coffee offerings on November 7, just one day before the SoMa location closes. These beverages were introduced to customers in January 2024.
Future Plans for San Francisco Stores
Despite these closures, Starbucks remains committed to the San Francisco market. The company is reportedly planning to invest $2.5 million in renovations across four shops in the city. Employees from the closing SoMa branch will have the opportunity to transfer to a neighboring store of their choice.
For those still seeking their caffeine fix, Starbucks continues to operate numerous locations throughout San Francisco, including one directly across the street from the historic 30-year-old location at 789 Mission St.
