Social Security Recipients Get Double Payments and a 2.5% Boost in November

Millions of retired Americans will see a 2.5% increase in their Social Security payments this month, thanks to a cost-of-living adjustment. However, there’s another surprise for some recipients: they could receive two checks in November.

While Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are typically issued on the first of each month, a timing rule is causing December’s SSI payment to be issued early. Instead of arriving on December 1, the check will land in mailboxes on November 29. This early payment occurs whenever the first of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, according to financial experts.

This timing adjustment doesn’t stop in November. It will impact SSI payments through March. Specifically, January’s check will arrive on December 31, February’s on January 31, and March’s on February 28, based on the Social Security Administration’s payment schedule.
