Social Security Holiday Schedule: Why Payments Skip Thanksgiving Day

According to Vibes.okdiario The Social Security Administration (SSA) will not issue monthly payments on Thanksgiving Day, as it is a Federal Holiday. As a result, Social Security payments are not processed on this day. However, recipients can expect their payments to be issued on the previous business day to avoid delays.

Why SSA Does Not Issue Payments on Thanksgiving Day

There are two main reasons why Social Security payments are not issued on Thanksgiving Day:

  1. Thanksgiving is a Federal Holiday: Since federal holidays mean that SSA offices, banks, and financial institutions are closed, no checks or direct deposits are processed.
  2. Scheduled Payment Days: Social Security typically issues the last three payments of the month on Wednesdays. In November, these payments will be sent out on the 13th, 20th, and 27th.

Social Security Payments Before and After Thanksgiving

To ensure recipients get their payments on time, Social Security has set specific payment dates in November:

  • November 13: For those whose birthday falls between the 1st and 10th.
  • November 20: For those born between the 11th and 20th.
  • November 27: For those born between the 21st and 31st.

These dates cover Social Security retirement and SSDI payments.

Payments After Thanksgiving

Following Thanksgiving, the final Social Security payment for November will be issued on November 29, the Friday after Thanksgiving, for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients. On this date, SSI recipients will receive up to $943.

This ensures that all eligible recipients continue to receive their monthly payments without delays due to the holiday.
