SNAP update: Which States have recently joined the SUN Bucks program for 2025? Check where to get EBT payments next summer

According to Vibes.okdiario The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides low-income individuals and families with monthly food assistance. However, during the summer months, when children are not receiving free school meals, families may find themselves running short on food. To help during this time, some states offer the SUN Bucks program, which provides an additional $120 to eligible families to buy food over the summer.

While many states participated in the SUN Bucks program last summer, not all did, and some states that did not participate are now offering the program in 2024. If your state is one of the newly participating states, it’s important to check if you qualify for this extra benefit, as it can be used alongside your regular SNAP benefits.

States that have recently joined the SUN Bucks program:

  • Nevada
  • Missouri
  • New Hampshire
  • Massachusetts
  • Hawaii
  • United States Virgin Islands
  • Puerto Rico
  • Louisiana

If your state is listed above, you may be eligible for the SUN Bucks program if you are a SNAP recipient, so be sure to confirm your eligibility and apply if applicable.

States that do not participate in the SUN Bucks program:

  • Idaho
  • Wyoming
  • Utah
  • South Dakota
  • Iowa
  • Texas
  • Florida
  • Mississippi
  • Alabama
  • Georgia
  • South Carolina
  • Alaska

These states do not currently offer SUN Bucks, even if they provide SNAP benefits.

Eligibility for SUN Bucks:
To qualify for SUN Bucks, your children must be school-aged and your family must be receiving SNAP, TANF, or FDPIR benefits. Additionally, children must attend a school that participates in the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program, and your household income must meet the USDA’s limits for free or reduced-price meals.

Be sure to check with your state to see if you’re eligible for SUN Bucks if you’re participating in SNAP this summer.
