According to The Sun -, Thousands of Americans could soon receive a share of an $88,000 settlement pot following a corporate settlement. If you own a Pyrex measuring cup, you might be entitled to free cash.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced that over $88,000 will be refunded to consumers who purchased Chinese-made Pyrex measuring cups marketed as “Made in the USA.” The FTC charged the Chinese manufacturers in 2023 after they falsely claimed their products were made in the U.S., even though all of the cups were imported from China. Instant Brands, the company behind the Pyrex brand, has agreed to pay a monetary settlement.
Around 10,300 customers who bought these measuring cups between March 2021 and May 2022 are eligible for refunds. If you own one of these cups, you may be entitled to a portion of the settlement.
In addition to the Pyrex settlement, Americans are being urged to check if they are eligible for a share of a $1.6 million data breach settlement. The lawsuit involves the Hilb Group, which allegedly failed to prevent a data breach that exposed sensitive information of its customers between December 1, 2022, and January 12, 2023. If your personal information was accessed or could have been accessed, or if you did not receive a notification about the breach, you may be eligible to claim up to $5,000 in reimbursements.
The class action lawsuit claims that the Hilb Group did not take adequate steps to secure customer data, which led to the breach. Those eligible can file claims for reimbursement of out-of-pocket losses, such as expenses related to identity theft or credit monitoring services. To apply, you need to submit a claim form, with a deadline of December 13, 2024.
Meanwhile, more data breach settlements are unfolding. Baur’s Furniture, a Florida-based retailer, has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit over a 2022 cyberattack that compromised customer and employee personal data, including Social Security numbers and medical details. While Baur’s has not admitted wrongdoing, it has agreed to pay a settlement. Eligible customers must file their claims within the next two weeks.

Great Expressions, a dental chain, is also settling a lawsuit over a September 2023 data breach that allegedly exposed consumer data due to inadequate cybersecurity measures. Affected customers who were notified about the breach may be eligible for compensation, depending on whether their Social Security numbers were compromised.
In another case, Green Valley Pecan Company, based in Arizona, is offering compensation after a data breach in May 2022 that compromised customer data. The lawsuit claimed that Green Valley could have prevented the breach by implementing better cybersecurity measures.
These settlements highlight the growing trend of companies being held accountable for failing to protect sensitive consumer data.
