According to The Sun , Certain Americans may be eligible for a one-time payment as part of a recent data breach settlement involving UnitedLex, a legal data analytics company. The settlement follows a class action lawsuit in which plaintiffs claimed UnitedLex failed to prevent a cyberattack that compromised sensitive information of beneficiaries, contractors, and employees. The breach, which occurred in March 2023, allegedly exposed financial account numbers, Social Security numbers, and names.
Settlement Details and Eligibility
UnitedLex has agreed to a $1.3 million settlement to resolve claims and avoid further litigation costs, without admitting wrongdoing. Individuals eligible for compensation include current or former UnitedLex beneficiaries, contractors, and employees whose personal information may have been compromised in the data breach. Notifications were sent by mail or email, including a Claim ID and PIN to simplify the claim process.
Filing a Claim
To participate in the settlement, claimants can use their Claim ID and PIN to submit an online claim form via the settlement website. Those without a Claim ID or PIN can still file securely on the site through an alternative method. Claim forms are also downloadable from the Case Documents section for those who prefer to mail in their application. The deadline to file a claim is November 12, 2024.

Valid documentation of costs related to identity theft, bank fees, credit costs, and other damages may qualify claimants for reimbursements up to $15,000. Additionally, a $500 payment is available for eligible claimants to cover time lost due to the breach. Any remaining funds will be distributed on a pro-rata basis to eligible claimants.
Claimants can access free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through July 11, 2027. UnitedLex has also committed to strengthening cybersecurity measures to prevent future breaches. The final approval hearing for the settlement is set for December 10, 2024.

Additionally, claimants in a Paycom data breach settlement had until November 7 to apply for a potential $4,200 payment.
