Popeyes’ Beloved Thanksgiving Dish Is Back, but Customers Spot a Difference

According to The Sun, Popeyes has reintroduced a fan-favorite entrée just in time for Thanksgiving 2024. Known for its signature fried chicken, the fast-food chain’s Cajun-Style Turkey has garnered significant attention over the past few years.

A Holiday Favorite

First introduced three years ago, the Cajun-Style Turkey is “hand-rubbed & infused” with a “signature blend of Louisiana seasonings,” according to the Popeyes website. This delectable offering is pre-cooked, allowing customers to save time during the busy holiday season with a straightforward process of thawing, heating, and serving.

Preparation Made Easy

To prepare the Cajun-Style Turkey, customers should thaw the turkey for 72 hours in the refrigerator and then cook or reheat it accordingly. The turkey must be consumed within three days after thawing. This generous entrée is designed to feed at least eight to twelve guests and weighs between 11 and 13 pounds. Customers can order the turkey for pickup at their local Popeyes restaurant or opt for delivery. Additionally, various sides and other menu items are available to complement the Cajun-Style Turkey, making it easy to create a complete Thanksgiving meal.

Price Increases Cause a Stir

While many Popeyes customers are excited about the return of the Thanksgiving offering, some have noticed a significant price increase.

“It’s really good. But I remember when they used to be $39.99,” one user remarked on Reddit. “Now it’s $99? Yikes!”

While the $99 figure isn’t universally accurate, as prices vary by location, it highlights the price jump. Generally, pickup at Popeyes is around $54, reflecting an increase of approximately $14 from the previous year’s price of $39.99.

Despite the price hike, many customers express their willingness to pay for this popular dish. One Reddit user shared, “Last year, I got one of these and it was incredible, but I used the juices to make an even better gravy. If you’re looking for a quick and easy option, do yourself a favor and get this. It’s one of the best turkeys I’ve ever had.”

Competing Thanksgiving Offers

Several major retailers have also launched their Thanksgiving offerings. Aldi introduced its “lowest-priced” Thanksgiving basket earlier this month for $47, aimed at combating inflation and providing “welcome relief” for customers wanting to afford a festive meal. This basket includes a Butterball turkey, gravy, stuffing, spices, rolls, and ingredients to make cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie.

Walmart is also in the game, offering a competing Thanksgiving basket deal for around $50, which includes over 29 items and ingredients. Walmart’s basket is marketed as “inflation-free” and can be purchased and donated to the Salvation Army for customers looking to give back this holiday season.
