According to The Sun , Time is running out for Americans to claim compensation from a data breach settlement involving Great Expressions, a network of 246 dental care centers across the U.S. The settlement comes after a 2023 data breach that exposed sensitive consumer information, including Social Security numbers, leading to a class-action lawsuit.
Settlement Overview
In the lawsuit, class members argued that Great Expressions could have prevented the breach by implementing adequate cybersecurity measures. Though the company has not admitted any wrongdoing, it has agreed to pay $2.7 million to settle the case.
Are You Eligible for Compensation?
Eligible class members include those who received a breach notification from Great Expressions about the February 2023 data compromise. The settlement divides participants into two subclasses based on whether their Social Security numbers were potentially exposed.
Subclass 1: Consumers Whose Social Security Numbers Were Exposed These individuals may be eligible for:
- $500 in cash
- $500 for ordinary losses
- $5,000 for extraordinary losses Additionally, they can claim $20 per hour for up to two hours of lost time, for a maximum payment of $40.
Subclass 2: Consumers Whose Social Security Numbers Were Not Exposed This group can claim $20 per hour for up to two hours of lost time, with a maximum payment of $40.

Key Dates to Remember
The deadline to file a claim for the Great Expressions data breach settlement is fast approaching—Friday, November 8, 2024. The final approval hearing for the settlement will take place on December 12, 2024. The deadline to exclude or object from the settlement has already passed (October 11, 2024).

Consumers who were affected by a subscription renewal issue with a popular streaming service have until the end of the week to file for a share of a $3.74 million settlement.
