According to The Sun , A life-changing initiative designed to provide financial relief to low-income families in Mountain View, California, is set to conclude after two years, meaning some recipients will receive their final cash payments.
The program, called Elevate MV, is a guaranteed basic income pilot launched to help qualifying residents with extremely low incomes. Administered by the Community Services Agency in Mountain View, in collaboration with the YMCA and Community Financial Resources, the program has been part of a research study by the University of Pennsylvania Center for Guaranteed Income Research.
Elevate MV has provided monthly $500 payments for two years, totaling $6,000 per participant. The funds are unrestricted, meaning recipients could use the money in whatever way they needed to meet their basic needs. This approach is designed to financially empower individuals by offering them flexibility in managing their household expenses.
A random lottery process selected at least 166 participants who met the program’s eligibility criteria. To qualify, applicants had to demonstrate income below 30% of the Area Median Income (AMI) and be pregnant or a caregiver for a child under 18 at the time of their application.
The first payments were distributed on December 15, 2022, with the final payment issued on November 15, 2024. As the program concludes in December 2024, it remains unclear whether there will be another round of applications for a new two-year cycle.

In addition to Elevate MV, Californians should be aware of the Family First Economic Support Pilot (FFESP) in Sacramento, which provides financial assistance to 200 low-income households. This program focuses on financial disparity among Alaska Native, American Indian, and Black families. Eligible households receive $725 per month for one year, totaling $8,700.
Other states are also offering similar initiatives, such as an artist program providing $500 monthly checks for five years and a music program in Georgia offering $1,000 monthly payments. These efforts aim to support families and individuals in need while promoting financial security and well-being.
