Famous Dave’s Closes Two Locations in Washington After Renovations

According to The Sun , Famous Dave’s, a well-known national barbecue chain with nearly 200 locations, has unexpectedly closed two of its restaurants. The closures, which occurred on December 4, affected the last two Famous Dave’s locations in Western Washington—one in Tacoma and the other in Tukwila.

The Tacoma location had only undergone a remodeling earlier in 2024, with updates such as new flooring and repairs. This closure is particularly abrupt, considering the location had just celebrated its renovations and was a popular spot in the Tacoma Place plaza. Both closures were announced on social media by Ascend Hospitality Group, the franchise owner, who expressed gratitude to customers for their support over the years.

“For many years, we’ve had the honor of serving this community, sharing countless memories over plates of classic ‘que and good company and, for that, we are grateful,” the post read. “It has been our greatest privilege to serve you.” The post also conveyed appreciation for the loyalty of their patrons and wished everyone a joyful holiday season. While the exact reason for the closures remains unclear, the franchise assured that employees were provided compensation and job-seeking support.

With the closures of these two Washington locations, Famous Dave’s now only has one remaining restaurant in the state, in Yakima. The closures reflect a broader trend within the restaurant industry, where many chains have been forced to shut down locations amid high inflation and reduced consumer spending. In fact, the price of dining out has risen, with costs up 0.3% from October and 3.6% from November 2023.

These closures are part of a larger pattern of restaurant shutdowns throughout 2024, as inflation continues to impact dining habits across the country.
