Crafts retailer to close 1100+ stores for 24 hours in shopping blackout – and Hobby Lobby won’t be much help

According to The Sun , A major crafts retailer with over 1,000 stores across the United States is set to close all its outlets for a single day in the coming weeks, leaving creative enthusiasts to adjust their plans. Michaels and Hobby Lobby stores will be closed on Thanksgiving, observed this year on November 28.

This closure aligns with a broader retail trend, as many major stores have opted to give their employees the day off to spend with their families. Michaels and Hobby Lobby will reopen their doors on Black Friday, with trading beginning at 7 a.m.

Both chains will also close their stores on Christmas Day but will operate on New Year’s Day to accommodate shoppers. Michaels announced its holiday store hours earlier this year, coinciding with the launch of its 2024 holiday décor collections in September. New holiday items will continue to roll out throughout the season, ensuring last-minute shoppers can find what they need.

“Michaels is the one-stop holiday shop to make the season bright,” executives said in a statement.

Hobby Lobby’s holiday schedule mirrors Michaels, with all 1,000+ locations closed for Thanksgiving and Christmas but open for New Year’s Day shoppers.

This closure trend is seen across several major retailers. Walmart, for instance, will shut all its stores nationwide on Thanksgiving for the fifth consecutive year, honoring a tradition that allows employees to enjoy time with their families.

Target will also remain closed for the holiday, following a decision made permanent in 2021. Target CEO Brian Cornell explained that the company’s strong business model allows it to meet customers’ needs without requiring stores to open on Thanksgiving.

Other retailers like Home Depot, HomeGoods, Marshalls, Trader Joe’s, and TJ Maxx will also close their doors for the day.

However, not all stores will be silent on Thanksgiving. Shoppers needing last-minute essentials can visit select grocery stores, including Kroger, Meijer, and Whole Foods Market. Customers are advised to check store hours, as they may vary by location.
