Are You Eligible for the $1,900 Social Security Payment This Wednesday?

Social Security – Each month, millions of Americans receive Social Security benefits, distributed according to a set schedule. December payments are already underway, with recipients set to see a boost in the new year due to a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).

December Payment Schedule

The Social Security Administration (SSA) issues payments based on recipients’ birth dates:

  • 1st–10th of the month: Payments are made on the second Wednesday. For December, this group receives their payment on Wednesday, December 11, with an average payment of $1,900.
  • 11th–20th of the month: Payments are made on the third Wednesday, which falls on December 18 this month.
  • 21st–31st of the month: Payments are made on the fourth Wednesday, December 24 this year.

Because of the holidays, some payments are adjusted. The final round for December, normally due on the 31st, will instead be paid on Tuesday, December 31.

Special Cases for Payments

  • Retirees before 1997: Payments are distributed on the first of the month, regardless of birth date.
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients: Payments are typically issued on the first of the month. However, in November, SSI beneficiaries received two payments—one for November and one for December—due to a scheduling adjustment for the holiday.

2025 Benefit Increase

Beneficiaries can look forward to a 2.5% increase in payments starting January 2025, thanks to the COLA. This adjustment aligns payments with inflation, ensuring beneficiaries maintain their purchasing power.

The SSA’s COLA mechanism is a critical tool for offsetting inflation, providing much-needed financial stability for millions of Americans.
