Amazon to End Popular Delivery Service: Find Out the Exact Date for Shoppers

According to The Sun, Amazon has announced the discontinuation of its popular same-day delivery service, Amazon Today, as part of a strategy to reduce overlap in its fast shipping options. The program, which allows customers to collect orders from local retailers, will cease operations on January 24, 2025, according to a company spokesperson.

Transition and Impact on Employees

The closure of Amazon Today will affect a team of around 175 employees. However, most of those impacted will be transferred to other positions within the company, mitigating the job loss impact. A spokesperson confirmed that the decision aims to streamline the company’s offerings due to the growing overlap with other fast delivery programs.

Alternatives for Same-Day Delivery

Customers need not worry, as the majority of products available through Amazon Today will still be accessible through other same-day and next-day delivery options. The company has expanded its Prime delivery service since its introduction in 2022, collaborating with brands like PacSun, GNC, and SuperDry.

High Fulfillment Standards

Retailers participating in the Amazon Today program had to meet stringent in-store fulfillment requirements. For instance, as of January 2023, stores were expected to maintain a 99% pickup readiness rate, ensuring orders were packed and staged within one hour of receipt.

Expanding Fast Shipping Capabilities

Despite the discontinuation of Amazon Today, the company continues to enhance its fast shipping capabilities. The spokesperson stated, “As we’ve continued increasing the selection available with Same-Day and One-Day Delivery, we’ve seen a growing overlap between those programs and Amazon Today.” They emphasized that most products customers purchased through Amazon Today would remain available for same- and one-day delivery.

The new Amazon Fire TV Stick HD will replace the existing Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite. At first glance, the new stick appears identical to its predecessors, maintaining the same black rectangular design.

Features of the New Fire Stick

Although the name includes “HD,” the device still supports 1080p Full HD, similar to previous models. It retains the same 8GB processing power and storage capacity. A notable update is seen in the Lite version’s remote, which now features upgraded controls that allow users to manage their TV’s volume and mute functions without needing the main remote, providing a more seamless viewing experience.
