San Mateo Police Arrest Cyclist for Drug Possession and Providing False Identification

San Mateo police officers made a felony drug arrest last night after stopping a cyclist for riding without proper lighting. The cyclist, later identified as 51-year-old Jason Hellman from Vallejo, nearly collided with a patrol vehicle around 8:40 p.m., prompting the officers to intervene.

During the stop, Hellman provided a false identification, which belonged to another person with an outstanding warrant. After being stopped, he attempted to evade law enforcement but was quickly apprehended without further incident.

A search of Hellman’s belongings revealed a substantial amount of drugs, including over four ounces of methamphetamine, along with cash and drug paraphernalia. Initially using a false name, Hellman eventually disclosed his true identity, which revealed he had two felony warrants for his arrest.

Hellman now faces multiple charges, including possession of controlled substances for sale, possession of drug paraphernalia, providing false identification to a police officer, and resisting arrest. He was taken into custody and booked into San Mateo County Jail on these charges and the two outstanding felony warrants.
