According to The Sun , Kohl’s is set to close operations at a key location, raising questions for local shoppers, particularly as the holiday season approaches. While there are no visible closing signs or confirmed liquidation sales, the department store chain will vacate its space soon.
The store, located at 501 Technology Center Drive in Stoughton, Massachusetts, is listed for lease, as reported by The Enterprise. The listings, available on commercial real estate platform LoopNet, describe the property as being in “excellent condition” and ideal for retail, industrial, or storage use. The 89,136-square-foot building, built in 2004, includes 465 parking spots and three loading docks. The lease term is noted as negotiable, with the space set to be available by January 1, 2025.
Despite the listing, employees at the Kohl’s store in Stoughton have not received official word about the closure, and they were uncertain about the future of the store in the New Year. Shoppers in the area will likely need to head to nearby Kohl’s locations, such as one 16 miles away in East Walpole.

This move comes as Kohl’s works to adjust its operations, having seen a surge in store openings and updates in recent years. While Kohl’s faced financial difficulties during the height of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, the company has since recovered. It announced plans in May 2023 to open five new stores, as well as the addition of Sephora and Babies “R” Us pop-up shops inside over 250 locations.
In contrast to the Stoughton store, Kohl’s has remained relatively stable in terms of closures, with only one location shut down in 2023. However, a similar closure is also set to occur at a Kohl’s store in Herndon, Virginia, in January 2025.
The chain also announced that all of its over 1,170 locations will close for an entire day at the end of November. Meanwhile, Kohl’s has launched its Black Friday sales, offering discounts of up to 50%. For shoppers in Massachusetts, though, the fate of the Stoughton store remains uncertain as the New Year approaches.
