First SSDI round of payments in December 2024 for those who get Social Security on Wednesdays

According to Vibes.okdiario , The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed that SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) payments will be issued on December 11, 2024. Some recipients received their checks on December 3, 2024, but this was due to either having started receiving disability benefits before May 1997 or also receiving SSI (Supplemental Security Income) benefits.

If you didn’t receive your check on December 3, there will be additional SSDI payments in December. To qualify for SSDI, you must have worked and paid enough payroll taxes, and have a qualifying disability as defined by the SSA.

SSDI Payment Schedule

  • December 11: Recipients born between the 1st and 10th of the month will receive their payment.
  • December 18: Recipients born between the 11th and 20th of the month will get their SSDI payment.

The final SSDI payment in December will not occur on the fourth Wednesday (December 25) due to the Christmas holiday. As a result, SSDI payments will be delayed until January.

SSDI Payment Amounts

The amount you receive for SSDI depends on your work history and the amount of taxes you’ve paid into Social Security. The average payment is about $1,542, based on the SSA’s cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) fact sheet.

High earners may receive up to $3,822 per month, but this is rare. Only those who earned the maximum taxable amount for 35 years are eligible for such payments.

Please note that the December SSDI payments will not reflect the 2025 COLA increase. Recipients will need to wait until January (on the 3rd, 8th, 15th, or 22nd) to receive their updated payments, which will include the COLA adjustment for the new year.
