Stop & Shop is taking steps to enhance the shopping experience for customers in Rhode Island by eliminating an automatic surcharge and reducing prices on various items.
Removal of Paper Bag Fee
Starting in October, customers at Stop & Shop’s 25 stores in Rhode Island will no longer have to pay the 10-cent fee for paper bags. This move was announced in a press release on October 8, as part of the retailer’s initiative to “make groceries more affordable” for local residents.
Price Reductions on Thousands of Items
In addition to the removal of the paper bag fee, Stop & Shop will also lower prices on thousands of its national and private brand items. Customers can expect reductions on over 3,500 products across nearly every department, totaling around 87,500 price drops on merchandise.
Discounted items will be clearly marked with yellow tags that indicate the price reduction compared to the original price. Some examples of discounted products include:
- Boneless Chicken Breast Value Pack
- Hass Avocados
- Kraft Shredded Cheese
- Yoplait Yogurts
Price drops will vary, with reductions ranging from 11% to 30%.
Introduction of Savings Stations
To further assist customers, Stop & Shop will introduce “Savings Stations” at its Rhode Island locations. These kiosks will serve as in-store savings centers, allowing customers to save on groceries through digital coupons. Shoppers can scan their GO Rewards loyalty card or enter their phone number to instantly see what digital coupons they qualify for.
Customers can choose to keep the coupons on their devices through the GO Rewards loyalty program or print them out for use during their shopping trips. The program also allows customers to earn points that can be redeemed for discounts on future purchases or gas savings.
Additional Benefits for Shoppers
Stop & Shop has promised at least three more benefits for Rhode Island shoppers:
- Weekly Sales: Regular discounts on various products.
- Deal Lock: This program secures sale prices for several weeks, allowing customers to maximize their savings.
- Meal Deals: Families of four can enjoy a main protein-based dish at a discount, along with complimentary items to complete their meal.
Overview of Store Operations
Stop & Shop operates over 350 locations across Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. Earlier this year, the retailer confirmed the closures of at least 32 locations across these states. Each store will close on or before November 2, with some already having shut their doors.
These changes reflect Stop & Shop’s commitment to improving affordability and the overall shopping experience for its customers.
