Final Days: Claim Your Share of $115M Privacy Settlement—No Bank Statement Required!

The deadline is fast approaching for Americans to claim their share of a $115 million payout stemming from privacy concerns. This settlement follows a class action lawsuit filed against Oracle America, Inc. in California in 2023.

Lawsuit Background

The complaint alleges that Oracle illegally collected personal information and sold it to third parties for advertising purposes. According to the class action notice, “Oracle improperly captured, compiled, and sold individuals’ online and offline data to third parties without obtaining their consent.” The types of information reportedly collected include web activity, online purchases, geolocation, and other personal data.

Oracle works with various companies, including Uber, AMC, and MGM Resorts. Although the company has agreed to a $115 million settlement, it admits no wrongdoing.

Compensation Details

Under the terms of the settlement, claimants will receive an equal share of the settlement fund. However, the exact amount each claimant will receive is currently unknown, as it will depend on the number of eligible claims submitted.

In addition to monetary compensation, Oracle will implement changes to its operations in response to the lawsuit. The company plans to review its privacy systems and will cease collecting user information from forms and referrer websites on its own site.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for payment, individuals must have had their personal information collected and/or sold since August 19, 2018. Data that was sold may have been made available through ID Graph, Data Marketplace, or other advertising products used by Oracle since that date.

Urgent Action Required

Eligible individuals have just four days left to file a claim. Those who believe they qualify are urged to visit the settlement website, where they can access the claim form submission portal.

Key Dates to Remember

  • Final Claim Submission Date: October 17
  • Individuals wishing to object or exclude themselves from the settlement must also do so by this date. Excluding oneself means forfeiting any payment but retaining the right to sue Oracle in the future regarding the same complaint.

Eligible claimants who do not take action will not receive any money and will forfeit their legal rights related to this case.

Upcoming Approval Hearing

A final approval hearing is scheduled for November 14, where a judge will review the settlement terms and decide the amount each claimant will receive after various deductions.

Additional Settlement Opportunities

In related news, thousands of Americans are also eligible for a $29.5 million settlement involving Citibank. Each claimant could receive up to $850 if they were impacted by calls regarding credit card balances between August 15, 2014, and July 31, 2024. However, Citibank customers must act quickly as deadlines are approaching for this settlement as well.
