A driver was pulled over for using a plastic skeleton as a passenger in the high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane, according to a recent post from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) on Facebook.
The incident occurred in San Jose when CHP officers spotted a sedan with a plastic skeleton adorned with a ghost face mask in the passenger seat, attempting to mimic a human rider.
In their social media update, CHP emphasized the importance of adhering to carpool requirements, stating, “It’s important to remember that decorations being transported in the passenger seat do not qualify to meet carpool requirements.”
According to Caltrans, violators of HOV lane regulations can face a minimum fine of $490, which may increase for repeat offenders.
