A major grocery chain competing with Aldi is expanding its presence in the U.S. despite facing challenges, but some shoppers are questioning the excitement surrounding it. Lidl is set to open a new store in the Bronx, New York, on October 23, and excitement is palpable, with lengthy queues forming outside its grand openings.
The new Lidl location will be situated at 700 Exterior St., Bronx, NY 10451, and local leaders will welcome the store with a ribbon-cutting ceremony starting at 7:40 a.m. The grand opening celebration will feature special offers for shoppers, and the store will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
This new store is part of Lidl’s expanding network in the New York City area, joining existing locations in Harlem, Glen Oaks, and Weehawken. The Bronx store is also expected to create around 48 new jobs for the community.
As a special incentive, the first 100 customers in line before the store opens at 8:00 a.m. will receive gift cards worth between $5 and $100. Shoppers will also have the opportunity to sample Lidl’s products and enjoy various giveaways during the grand opening.
Earlier this year, Lidl opened a branch in Forsyth, Georgia, which attracted long lines of eager customers, some waiting overnight for the event. One shopper shared their enthusiasm on Facebook, saying, “So what if I stood in line to go to a new grocery store? The guy I was talking to said it’s the largest Lidl they have,” expressing satisfaction with the higher-end choices available.
However, not everyone shares the same enthusiasm. Several commenters expressed their skepticism about the hype surrounding the chain. One user remarked, “It’s a grocery store, people. Y’all have way too much free time on your hands,” while another added, “I don’t get it. Nothing would make me stand in line for groceries for subpar food.”
As Lidl continues to expand in the U.S., the contrasting opinions among shoppers highlight the diverse views on the grocery store chain’s popularity.
