The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office’s Retail Theft Task Force recently apprehended 10 individuals at a Target store in San José. According to a post on the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, the arrests took place last week at the Target located on N. Capitol Avenue.
The suspects were caught in the act of stealing a variety of items, including beauty supplies, medication, baby formula, health products, ink cartridges, and even a scooter. Captain Brendan Omori noted the task force’s growing reputation, stating, “Our unit’s aggressive enforcement is becoming known in retailer circles.” Retailers have expressed appreciation for the team’s efforts to combat theft in their stores.
This sting operation resulted in the recovery of over $8,000 worth of merchandise from just one store. The task force is a collaborative effort involving the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, the San Jose Police Department, and specialized teams within the Sheriff’s Office. Their coordinated actions not only lead to immediate arrests but also help generate leads on major criminal groups that buy and resell stolen goods for profit.
