SNAP 2025 COLA Increase: Upcoming Food Stamp Payments With Boost

The USDA has confirmed that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits have increased following the 2025 Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) in the 48 contiguous states, the District of Columbia, Alaska, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. However, SNAP benefits in Hawaii have decreased, leaving recipients there with less aid, despite the overall trend of higher benefits nationwide.

For example, after the 2025 COLA increase, a family of four in most states can now receive up to $975 in monthly benefits, a slight increase from the previous $973. While the rise is minimal, it can still offer a meaningful boost to many families relying on food assistance.

Highest SNAP Payments After 2025 COLA

The states and U.S. territories with the highest SNAP payments after the 2025 COLA are Alaska, Hawaii (despite the recent reduction), Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Of these, Alaska will send the highest payments for 2024 and 2025 due to its unique economic conditions.

Alaska’s high inflation rates are driven by the state’s remote location, high transportation costs for goods, and extreme weather, which contributes to higher energy prices. The result is three distinct maximum payment levels depending on whether a household is located in an urban area, Rural 1, or Rural 2.

For example, a family of four in a Rural 2 area of Alaska could receive up to $1,953 in SNAP benefits per month, while the same family in an urban part of the state would receive up to $1,258. These increased payments help offset the higher cost of living in Alaska, particularly in more remote areas where essentials are harder to access.

The 2025 COLA increases are designed to help SNAP recipients across the country better meet their nutritional needs, although the variation in payments shows the different economic challenges faced by residents in various regions.
