According to The Sun , Famous Dave’s, a well-known national barbecue chain with nearly 200 locations across the U.S., recently shut down two of its restaurants in Washington state. The closures, which occurred on December 4, 2024, impacted the last two Famous Dave’s locations in Western Washington, one in Tacoma and another in Tukwila. The closure comes as a surprise, especially considering that the Tacoma location had undergone a renovation earlier in the year.
Famous Dave’s, which marked its 30th anniversary in 2024, operates in over 30 states. Despite its extensive reach, the Tacoma and Tukwila locations were no longer listed as open on the chain’s website, with the Yakima location now the last remaining Famous Dave’s in Washington state.
Ascend Hospitality Group, the franchise owner of the closed locations, made the announcement on social media, expressing gratitude to the local community for years of support. “For many years, we’ve had the honor of serving this community, sharing countless memories over plates of classic ‘que and good company, and for that, we are grateful,” the post read. It continued, thanking loyal guests for allowing Famous Dave’s to be part of their celebrations and everyday moments, emphasizing that it had been a privilege to serve them.
The closure of the two locations, particularly the remodeled Tacoma restaurant, has left many questions unanswered. The Tacoma restaurant had received upgrades earlier in 2024, including new flooring and other repairs, and had even hosted a re-opening celebration with live country music after a temporary closure between January and April.

While the reasons for the closures are unclear, Ascend Hospitality Group assured employees that they were provided with compensation and job-seeking support. The number of workers impacted by the closures has not been disclosed.
These closures come amid a broader trend in the food service industry, with many fast food chains and restaurants closing locations throughout 2024. Inflation and a pullback in consumer spending have put pressure on many dining establishments. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, dining out costs increased by 0.3% from October to November 2024, and 3.6% compared to the previous year.
Famous Dave’s joins a list of beloved chains facing closures in 2024, as the economic climate continues to challenge the restaurant industry.
